Road legal buggies are something that almost all petrol heads will stop and admire when they see one. I know this because I own a road legal buggy, and I have done for over 10 years.
Road legal buggies are great fun in the summer but when they do come into their own is in the winter when the roads are slippy and the mud is slidey. It’s great fun!
For the first 4 or so years of owning my road legal buggy I would quite happily go out and go mud plugging (as my mother would say) I use to get so muddy and covered that I use to hose the buggy off and then hose myself off as well.
I know a lot of people who have buggies that are not road legal but use them on private property, but they still are itching to go out and see what they are really like on the road. I have taken lots of friends, family and random people out for quick blasts in the buggy, and I try my hardest to scare them :-).
A road legal buggy is a great way to explore green lanes and general explore around the countrysides in the UK obviously with the right permissions in place. I use to go out and not see a tarmaced road all day.
However, the more I drove the buggy the more fun it became to drive it on the roads and the more I didn’t get it muddy. You see every time you go out for a quick spin in the mud you really need to give her a good clean when you return, and that sounds like a great idea in the morning but when you get home tired wet and cold you really can’t be bothered to do it.
So these days I am more often than not playing in the lanes and looking for technical twisty roads where you don’t need to go fast to really enjoy the performance and handling of a this nippy exciting road legal buggy.
After you have replaced rose joints a couple of times and hammered out dings and scrapes from the floor and ripped off a couple of wheel arches and then have to rush to get the buggy ready for Stoneleigh Kit Car Show or even an International Mini Meet in Spain or Poland you have to make some sacrifices.
I always thought that owning a road buggy was going to be fun but after owning one it is really a lot more fun than I could ever imagine and although my road legal buggy is one of many in our owner’s club, I have to say that it is great fun.
There are many types of road legal buggies around that you can pick up fairly cheap. There is of course the Blitz and the Freestyle at one end of the spectrum and then there is the Rage buggy at the orther end of the spectrum.
Have a look around our site and see what you like. It’s not what you find the right buggy will find you.
